McAuliffe Calls McDonnell out on Rush
There is a part of me that wondered what took so long. Today Democratic candidate for Governor Terry McAuliffe hearkened back to his DNC days with a letter to Republican candidate Bob McDonnell asking him to condemn Rush Limbaugh’s remarks at the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) meeting last weekend.
Rush’s comments have been fodder on cable news shows and have forced the current RNC Chair Michael Steele into a tight spot where he attacked the comments and then eventually apologized to Limbaugh. It has also taken current DNC Chair (and Virginia Governor) Tim Kaine onto the cable channels calling Rush’s remarks evidence that the talk show host is “he who must be obeyed.”
So it was only a matter of time that the Democrats running for Governor, playing to a base that likely despises Rush Limbaugh to call Bob McDonnell out. Considering that this is a national story, it is not a surprise that the most national candidate, Terry McAuliffe is the first out of the gate.
In his letter the Macker writes to McDonnell the following:
“I know that you and I disagree on many issues, but I’m hoping that we can agree on this: hoping for failure isn’t the right way to get our economy back on track.
That’s why I’m asking you to join me in condemning the remarks Rush Limbaugh made wishing for the President to fail.”
**MCDONNELL CAMP RESPONDS**
via Tucker Martin, Campaign Spokesman:
“We know Chairman McAuliffe desperately wants our attention. And if he wins his competitive primary in June he will get it. Until then, we wish him the best of luck”
*Update* It was brought to my attention that VCU Professor Dr. Bob Holsworth predicted a stunt like this earlier today. He had the right concept just the wrong players. I wonder if all the candidates will now start reading his blog Virginia Tomorrow. I know I will.
McAuliffe’s complete letter can be seen after the jump.
