Today in Virginia Politics
After a very slow day yesterday (at least in Virginia Politics), everything is ramping back up today. There are quite a few things about the November races in Virginia worth noting.
First in the Presidential Race:
**Palin VA Beach Trip Not Happening– You may recall that during the Republican National Convention Attorney General Bob McDonnell announced that VP candidate Sarah Palin would be coming to Virginia Beach on September 18th. The Associated Press is now saying that won’t happen. We reported when the story first leaked that the Campaign would not confirm the appearence and now we see why. At this point, there are no plans to reschedule.
**Bob Barr in Virginia Today- The Libertarian candidate for President is apparently not taking Virginia’s 13 electoral votes for granted. Former Georgia Congressman Bob Barr, will speak at George Mason University today at 4. At one point there was concern that Barr and/or Congressman Ron Paul would siphon away Republican votes a la’ Ralph Nader in 2000. (who is also running this year). But their Independent voices appear to be getting even more marginalized then in the past.
And in the race for US Senate:
Second and Last? Senate Debate- Jim Gilmore and Mark Warner will meet in their second debate of the US Senate race next week. They will appear together at a debate sponsored by the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce on September 18th. The debate will be moderated by Chris Wallace, the host of Fox News Sunday. This could be significant because it may be the last debate between the two. Warner turned down the chance to debate Gilmore in front of a statewide TV auidence. That is something Gilmore has attempted to make some political hay out of.
Check back often today… I will have updates as they become available.
