Deeds begins charm offensive
Trailing in the polls, State Senator Creigh Deeds, appears to be taking the advice of several prominent Democrats and embarking on an aggressive push through Virginia that is largely positive. On Monday, supporters of the Democratic nominee for Governor of Virgina, will start at tour of the Valley region, which he is calling his “Hope and Opportunity” tour. The goal of the two day swing is to share his plan to “bring economic and educational opportunity to all Virginians.”
You can see the entire list of his stops after the jump.
But that is just one prong of this new effort. Starting Saturday, the Deeds team will blanket the state in a “Women to Women” canvass event, where female Deeds supporters will share with other women the ways the Democratic nominee will support their interests when elected governor. While this event could be connected to the controversial master’s thesis written by his opponent Bob McDonnell, there is no mention of the Republican in the press material. Just like the “Hope and Opportunity” tour, the message is largely positive.
The Women to Women effort does show the Deeds campaign’s understanding that despite their repeated push, to women in particular, about the McDonnell paper, their lead is not big enough to win overall. The latest Washington Post poll shows Deeds with a very slim lead with female voters.
Sen. Deeds will kickoff the Women to Women canvass event himself here in Richmond. Similar events will take place in Falls Church, Charlottesville, McLean, Norfolk and Newport News.
