McDonnell to keynote New Hampshire GOP fundraiser

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell will headline the New Hampshire Republican Party’s annual dinner September 26th in Concord.

The event, in an early primary state for the presidential election, is popular and usually draws crowds of 600 people or more.  It is anticipated that 4 to 6 GOP presidential candidates will be at the event, but McDonnell will serve as the keynote speaker.

McDonnell, who told me that he would consider a spot on the republican national ticket, is widely considered to be a rising star in the party.

“As Vice Chairman of the Republican Governor’s Association (McDonnell)  brings a national stature to our premiere fundraising event, his appearance has already generated brisk ticket sales,” said Bill Binnie, Finance Chair of the New Hampshire Republican Party in a prepared statement.

Despite his growing national ambition, McDonnell was worked hard to appear disinterested in his future prospects. He has made a point to avoid travel to any parts of the country that might raise questions about his next step.  McDonnell’s office made note of the fact that this is his first trip to New Hampshire since being elected governor of Virginia.

Expect McDonnell’s national recognition to only grow after Texas Governor Rick Perry formally steps into the race for president this weekend. Perry is currently the Chair of the Republican Governor’s Association and McDonnell has already expressed interest in moving to the top of the group, once Perry steps away from the post to run for national office.
