Surging Cain visits Richmond Saturday

with one comment

If recent polls are any indication he could be in 2nd place in the race for the GOP presidential nomination. Businessman Herman Cain will headline this weekend’s fundraiser for the powerful Virginia conservative group, The Family Foundation.

Cain’s plain spoken proposals and impressive life story have given him a second look by Republican primary voters unsure about the leading crop of candidates. He recently won a series of surprising straw polls and two national polls have showed him ahead or tied with Texas Governor Rick Perry and surging. Both trail former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

Cain is also expected to benefit from the final declaration by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie that he will not enter the race.

In an unsettled field, Cain (who has never held elective office) has gone from longshot to serious contender in just a few weeks.

Details on his visit to Richmond can be found below:

  1. …It seems to me that Mr. Cain and his 9-9-9 plan could quite possibly be helpful to our economy. He seems to be a smart, savy business man with fresh ideas. His story really is to be admired. The problem is, Mr. Cain, nor his plan will be anywhere around in November 2012. He’ll end up crushed under the boot heel of the mainstream, play it safe, Republican party. Mr. Cains future, I fear, is at best, VP for Romney or Gingrich. It’s a shame really…
