Angry Kaine lashes out over vote ((video))

with 3 comments

kaine1Governor Tim Kaine just wrapped up a press event where at one point he had to excuse himself from the conference room to control his emotions over a contentious vote.

The Republican House of Delegates turned back a plan to change the standards for unemployment benefits in Virginia to allow for more than $125 million in federal stimulus dollars to come to the Commonwealth. Kaine said that GOP legislators made a serious mistake based only in their need to wave their ideological fist at Washington.

He also said he planned to revisit the issue again and try and find another way, either administrativley or through the legislature, to get the Commonwealth access to the funds and in turn help Virginians in need.

The uncut video from his heated remarks is after the jump..

In addition to Kaine’s remarks, the Democratic Party of Virginia released the following statement regarding the vote:

VA Dems Statement on Unemployment Insurance Vote

Jared Leopold, Communications Director for the Democratic Party of Virginia, released the following statement regarding Wednesday’s House vote to reject federal stimulus funds for unemployment insurance:

“Unfortunately, Virginia families will pay the price for today’s political decision by Virginia Republican leaders to block federal stimulus funds.

“Yet again, House Republicans have chosen to play political games rather than deliver results for Virginians who are suffering through this tough economy. Bob McDonnell and the Virginia House Republicans have made it clear that they would rather see federal stimulus money go to other states than to Virginians who have lost their jobs.

“We applaud Governor Kaine and the members of the House and Senate who stood up today for Virginia’s working families.”
